Pet ResourcesLogical Expressions is a Pet-Friendly Company
When we chose to move away from the city and into the woods of North Idaho, we had several goals in mind. One of those goals was to find a place with acreage so we could have dogs. Our two-bedroom condo in La Costa was an okay home for a couple of cats, but we never felt right about owning a dog there. The forty acres we enjoy now gives us all the room we need for our dogs, and maybe someday, horses. At Logical Expressions, every day is "take your dog to work day!" Our furry co-workers don't contribute much in the way of productivity, but they do help provide a companionable and relaxing atmosphere. Once we had relocated to a rural area, the idea of getting more involved in pet rescue had more appeal too. Susan started volunteering at the local animal shelter within a couple months of moving here, which is partly how we eventually ended up with four dogs. She also worked as a veterinary technician at a local spay-neuter clinic. These experiences not only helped us deal with our own pet challenges, but the led to what would become an important discovery.
Free Pet Articles OnlineSusan discovered that many people who visited the shelter and the veterinary office really didn't know much about dogs and cats, but they wanted to learn. Also, the people she spoke with had many of the same questions. In researching and answering her own questions and those of others, Susan amassed a lot of knowledge on pet health, training, and behavior issues. She started writing regular articles that were published in local newspapers, and at the same time, she posted them to our Pet Tails Web site. Once again, our Logical Web Publisher software came to the rescue and made regular updates to the site a painless process. To this day, these free articles continue to help current and would-be pet owners with common challenges related to owning pets. You can see a feed of the most recent articles at right.
Happy Hound and Happy Tabby BooksAfter seven years of writing pet articles, Susan realized that she had enough great information to turn them into a couple of books. Our third self-publishing activity was to create and publish Susan's book Happy Hound: Develop a Great Relationship with Your Adopted Dog or Puppy. Susan's next book, Happy Tabby: Develop a Great Relationship with Your Adopted Cat or Kitten, followed a few months later. The books gave Susan a chance to revisit the information that she published in her articles, organize them into coherent topics, and update them with the latest information.
National Association of Pet Rescue ProfessionalsThe books were a great start for helping pet owners, but Susan wanted to do more to help the shelters and rescues that make pet adoption possible. In 2008, Susan launched the National Association of Pet Rescue Professionals (NAPRP), which is a membership organization dedicated to the needs of pet rescue and shelter organizations. NAPRP members enjoy access to regular teleseminars and the private area of the NAPRP Web site, which includes many document templates and other tools that help rescue organizations stay focused on the task of saving more pets lives. Through NAPRP, Susan is able to help members with solutions in three key areas:
