Press Release: Strategies for Overcoming Writer’s Block
Meet Your Deadlines: Strategies for Overcoming Writer’s Block for Time-Strapped Writers
Author of Nine Books Offers Tips
SANDPOINT, Idaho — People who earn a living from their writing literally can’t afford to have a case of writer’s block. Book author and publishing expert Susan Daffron of Logical Expressions, Inc. was involved in the design of the company’s IdeaWeaver writing and creativity software and offers these suggestions to writers based on her white paper “Get Unstuck! 15 Ways to Jumpstart Your Creativity, Get Organized, and Finish Your Writing Project,” which comes with the 30-day trial version of IdeaWeaver.
1. Try free writing. Free writing is the practice of simply sitting down and writing something — anything at all — for a specific period of time. For example, set a timer for 10 minutes. Now write without stopping for the entire 10 minutes without any interruption.
2. Use the storyteller approach. Many newspaper or magazine articles start with a personal anecdote or story about someone and then move into a more general discussion of the subject. To use the same trick, take a topic and spin a yarn about it.
3. Put yourself in someone else’s shoes. Ask questions as if you were the reader of the document. In acting parlance, you are “role playing.” Imagine the reader and all her likes and dislikes. Then write down all her questions and answer them.
The dreaded blank page can be intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be an insurmountable problem. Writers who need to see results right away can use these tips to jump-start their creativity and meet tight deadlines. Daffron points out that like anything else, writing gets easier with practice. For professional writers, increased output not only results in increased income, it can decrease episodes of writer’s block as well.
“IdeaWeaver” is free to try for 30 days. A license costs $49.95. The free trial download of the software is available at: www.IdeaWeaverSoftware.com. The site features a free “getting started” video, case studies, and a free e-mail white paper called “Get Unstuck! 15 Ways to Jumpstart Your Creativity, Get Organized, and Finish Your Writing Project.”
